Who We Are
Manitoba Beef & Forage Initiatives is a research and demonstration farm dedicated to working with farmers to support the advancement of the beef cattle and forage industries.
As a not-for-profit organization based in western Manitoba, MBFI facilities and activities create the space for farmers to engage with academic research, field demonstrations, industry, government, and the public to support the adoption of practices and technologies shown to increase productivity, mitigate production risks, minimize carbon footprints, and increase overall sustainability on the landscape.
MBFI is funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP), and works in partnership with strategic direction from Manitoba Agriculture, Manitoba Beef Producers (MBP), and Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC).
Our Mission
Advance Manitoba beef and forage industry by engaging stakeholders, evaluating on-farm innovation, and extension for sustainability of farmers, the public, and the environment.
Our Goals
Promote excellence, efficiency, and sustainability of practice in the agricultural industry in Manitoba for the dual benefit of the public and the environment by:
conducting on-farm research and field testing of practices related to beef cattle and forage production and disseminating the results to farmers and the public
providing hands-on learning opportunities and work placements for development of professionals entering beef cattle and forage production
Advance education by providing, to farmers and the public, field tours of demonstration farm, educational materials, and workshops on practices for beef cattle and forage production.
